CNHP General Performance Series Shows    


Central Nova Horse & Pony Association is pleased to present a series of general performance competitions that will enable you as competitors to accumulate points throughout three shows. You must be a member of CNHP to be eligible for points.  There will be year-end rewards presented in the divisions listed in the prize list. Competitors must show in two of the three shows to qualify for points. Division points will be awarded to the same horse/rider combination in all divisions. Novice Division winners are required to move up to regular classes, after winning the Novice Division.

Class Specifications

                      CENTRAL NOVA HORSE & PONY ASSOCIATION
                           GENERAL PERFORMANCE HORSE SHOWS

CENTRAL NOVA HORSE & PONY ASSOCIATION  is an outdoor facility.  Horse show events will NOT be canceled except in extreme weather at the discretion of the Show Committee.  Please dress appropriately.  Show fees will NOT be refunded unless classes are canceled.

CENTRAL NOVA HORSE & PONY ASSOCIATION is pleased to present a series of general performance competitions that will enable you as competitors to accumulate points throughout three shows. There will be year-end rewards presented in the divisions listed in the prize list.  Competitors must show in two of the three shows to qualify for points. Division points will be awarded to the same horse/rider combination in all divisions. In the Hunter Division, points will be awarded to a horse/rider combination in one Division only.  You must be a current member of CNHP to be eligible for points for year-end awards. 

COMBINED HUNTER CLASSES will be judged on performance, manners, way of going and hunting soundness. Competitors will be required to jump a course of not more than ten fences. An order of go will be posted with rounds of three competing back to back. Heights for the Low Combined Hunter Division will be either 2' or 2'3".  Heights for the Regular Combined Hunter Division will be 2'6"or 2'9".You must indicate your jumping height on the entry form.  To be judged together as one class.   No cross entering, with the same horse/rider combination, is permitted between Low  and Regular Combined Hunter.  Novice riders are permitted to ride in Hunter classes 1, 2, & 11, which are one round only.  They are not eligible for CNHP year-end awards.   NOTE:  If you are collecting points for year-end awards, you do not need to remain at the same height within the division for the season.  For example, you can enter 2' at the May show and 2'3" at the other shows.

HUNT SEAT EQUITATION O/F 2'6" is a class where the competitor is judged on their ability.  Their skill over a course of fences is judged, not that of the horse.  Equitation over fences to be judged over a Hunter type course of 6-8 fences with at least one change of direction.

HUNTER HACK is a class that requires a horse to move freely and easily while jumping small fences.  The horses are shown at a walk, trot and canter along the rail in both directions.  Competitors are then required to individually jump two fences, one being a cross rail and the other being a 2' vertical.  Horses are judged on manners and way of going, both on the flat and over fences.  Trotting jumps and simple changes of lead will not be penalized.  Martingales are not permitted.

All ENGLISH EQUITATION CLASSES will be broken into age groups as of January 1 Senior               19 and over                       
Junior               18 and under

Equitation classes are judged on rider’s ability to show their horse/pony. May be asked to ride a pattern.

All ENGLISH ROAD HACK and PLEASURE classes will be broken into two age groups, Senior and Junior. Seniors are 19 and older and Juniors are 18 and under, as of January 1 of the current year.

 The ROAD HACK class will be judged at walk, trot and canter.  May be requested to back. May be asked to do a strong/extended trot. May be asked to hand gallop one way of the ring.  Will be judged on performance, manners and way of going.

All ENGLISH PLEASURE CLASSES will be judged at a walk, trot and canter. May be asked to back. To be judged on performance, manners and way of going.

The VINTAGE PLEASURE CLASS is a class for those riders, either English or Western, who are over 40 years of age.  Riders will be judged at a walk, trot/jog and canter/lope.  Rider may be requested to back.  To be judged on performance, manners and way of going.

NOVICE CLASSES are for competitors who are not showing in regular classes at Central Nova Horse and Pony Association or other shows.  They are open to English and Western riders in Pleasure to be shown at the walk, trot/jog and canter/lope.  No riding hors concours in the novice flat classes, for safety reasons.

GROOMING AND CONDITIONING:

Grooming:  Horse spotless, mane neatly banded/braided, nostrils, eyes and dock clean.  Excess hair on heels removed, tail pulled/plaited or clipped.  Hoofs picked out and oiled or hoof blacked inside and out.  Handler is smartly attired so that they set off the horse's look.  Tack spotless, buckles polished and fitting well, all straps in keepers.

Conditioning:  A good working condition, well-muscled and not carrying excess flab.  Coat shiny and healthy.  Feet well shod or trimmed - no cracks or chips.  Horse attentive.

The GREEN HORSE/PONY CLASS is a class for horses/ponies who are in their first or second year of competition.  Will be asked to walk and trot/jog.  Canter/lope may be asked for, at the discretion of the judge.

 The WESTERN HORSEMANSHIP class is open to any age.  Horsemanship classes are judged on the rider's ability to show their horse/pony.  May be asked to ride a pattern.

All WESTERN PLEASURE classes are open to any age. Classes will be judged at a walk, jog and lope. May be requested to back. To be judged on performance, manners and way of going.  Two hands can be used on any horse 5 years of age and under and being ridden in a snaffle bit.  One hand is to be used on any horse being ridden in a shank bit, regardless of the age of the horse.

 Stakes Classes:

CNHP is offering two Stakes classes for English and Western riders. Each class has a Sponsor donating $100.00, combined with a payout of 50% of the entry fees, for six placings.  The percentage to be paid is as follows:  32%, 23%, 15%, 12%, 10% and 8%.

ENGLISH PLEASURE STAKE:  The class will be judged at a walk, trot and easy canter.  Competitors may be requested to back.  To be judged on performance, manners and way of going.

OPEN DOWN AND BACK:  Race down around one barrel and back.

HORSE  SHOW  RULES

CENTRAL NOVA HORSE & PONY ASSOCIATION  is an outdoor facility.  Horse show events will NOT be canceled except in extreme weather at the discretion of the Show Committee.  Please dress appropriately.  Show fees will NOT be refunded unless classes are canceled.

The show ring at CNHP will no longer be available for schooling purposes in advance of the General Performance Series Shows and Hunter Shows.  To clarify, the ring will be closed in the evening when the jump course is being set and will remain closed until the show begins.   All riders wanting to school can use the designated warm-up ring.

CNHP General Performance Series Shows are part of the Scotia Series sponsored by the Nova Scotia Equestrian Federation.  As such, the NSEF Scotia Series Rulebook & Competition Guidelines will be followed by CNHP.  Not all CNHP GP Series Show classes are eligible for Scotia Series points, but all competitors entering those classes that do qualify, are required to pay the Scotia Series fee of $3.00 per show.

For insurance purposes:  Competitors must be a member of their Provincial Sport Association  e.g.  NSEF

The Central Nova Horse & Pony Association and its Board of Directors are in no way responsible for accidents to any rider, owner, groom, spectator or other attendant, or to any equipment or animal competing at the Central Nova Horse Shows. 
2. Competitors must be current members of CNHP to be eligible to accumulate points towards year-end awards.
3. Ribbons will be awarded to sixth place in all classes. All judge’s and show committee’s decisions are final.
4. Stakes classes will cost $10.00 to enter. $5.00 will go to CNHP and $5.00 will go towards prize money. The payout will also include a $100.00 sponsorship.  The percentage to be paid is as follows:  32%, 23%, 15%, 12%, 10% and 8%.
5. Entry forms may be accepted after the closing date but will be subject to an additional administrative fee of $10.00.  Classes commence at 8:00 AM.
6. Entries will be accepted via email to cnhp76@gmail.com, by mail or in person.  Payment in full must accompany entry form. E-transfers can be sent to cnhp76@gmail.com No post dated cheques will be accepted. 
7. All participants are responsible for controlling his/her animals at all times. Dogs must be leashed.
8. Unsportsmanlike or abusive behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. 
9. NSEF Helmet Policy:  All competitors must wear ASTM/SEI or BSI/BS EN approved protective headgear, with safety harness secured at all times, while mounted at the competition or anywhere on the competition grounds.  This includes those competitors who are riding in gymkhana games.  Exception - Competitors 19 years old as of January 1 of the current year competing in the Western Performance Division without an approved helmet must submit a signed Scotia Series Helmet Waiver to the competition organizer.
10. Boots with heels must be worn at all times while mounted on a horse or pony at CNHP. Appropriate riding attire must be worn at all times while mounted on a horse or pony at CNHP, including shirts with sleeves.  Tank tops, shorts or pajamas are not considered appropriate attire.
11. No more than ten riders to canter or lope at one time. 
12. Lunging will only be permitted in the warm-up ring and only when circumstances permit. Lunging can be carried out in the upper ring towards the cross country course.  Be advised that there is no gate on the upper ring.
13. As of the closing date, classes with fewer than three entries may be cancelled or combined. Those entered will be notified and given a full refund for the cancelled class.
14. Stalls are awarded on a first entry received basis. No stalls will be given out over the phone.  Unused stalls or cancellations will go back to the show committee.  Stalls must be totally cleaned out to the dirt after each show or a $25.00 charge will be levied against the competitor. Repeat offenders will be dealt with on an individual basis by the Board of Directors. PLEASE NOTE: Bring your own bedding; it will not be supplied.
15. 100% of entry fees will be refunded if received by the closing date and accompanied by a valid medical or veterinary certificate. All other requests for refunds must be received forty-eight hours prior to the day of the show. 75% of the total amount of fees paid will then be refunded.
16. In order to qualify for Division Championships, competitors must compete in two out of the three shows, unless a class is cancelled. 
17. In the event of a tie in points at the end of the General Performance Series shows for a particular division, first place will be awarded to the competitor with the most first place standings.  Novice Division winners are required to move up to regular classes, after winning the Novice Division.
18. Senior competitors are defined as 19 years and older as of January 1 of the current year.  Junior competitors are defined as 18 years old and under as of January 1 of the current year.  Only Senior competitors are permitted to show stallions.
19. When jumps are present in the warm-up ring, only those horses and ponies entered in the Hunter classes are permitted to use the warm-up jumps. Right of way will be given at all times to the horses and ponies using the fences.
20. Certain areas of the CNHP grounds are off limited to horses and ponies. These areas will be posted. Any horse or pony outside of designated competition areas (ie warm-up ring, show ring, cross country course) are to be ridden at a walk or slow trot. Excessive speed and/or behavior deemed unsafe by the show committee will not be tolerated.
21. A fall from a horse or a horse falling (shoulder &/or hip on the ground), results in elimination from that class.  Rider and horse are required to leave the ring immediately.
22. It is the responsibility of all competitors to know what class they have entered, when that class is scheduled to run, and, in the case of classes with individual work, what position in that class they drew. Orders of go will be drawn by the office and posted. Once the draw is posted, no changes may be made without prior approval by the office. No refunds will be given for missed classes.

 It is the responsibility of the competitor to know and abide by the horse show rules.

The Show Committee and/or Board of Directors has the right to reprimand, suspend or remove any competitor from the grounds and any further competitions should they deem it necessary. All prizes and points earned at that show will be forfeited and there will be no refund of entry fees.
